Petition on Judicial Elections
The Nevada Supreme Court petition on judicial elections, "In the Matter of the Amendment to Canons 5(C)(2) and 5(C)(3) and Related Commentary to the Nevada Code of Judicial Conudct," is now available. Among other provisions, if enacted the amendments would provide that "A candidate who is not opposed in an open election may not solicit contributions and public support for the candidate's campaign, either personally or through a candidate's committee, at any time. A candidate who is opposed and a candidate's committees may solicit contributions and public support for the candidate's campaign no earlier than February 1 of the year of the primary election, and no later than 90 days after the last election in which the candidate participates during the election year. A candidate shall now use or permit the use of campaign contributions for the private benefit of the candidate or others."
