Amazing courthouse drama: judge banned from courthouse

Chief District Court Kathy Hardcastle banned District Court Judge Elizabeth Halverson from the courthouse on Wednesday, based upon Judge Halverson's actions of hiring two bodyguards, bypassing courthouse security, failing to submit to background checks for the bodyguards, and permitting weapons to be carried by the bodyguards in secured areas of the courthouse.

Judges Stewart Bell, Art Richie and Betsy Gonzalez recommended to Judge Hardcastle that she bar Judge Halverson from the bench until she agrees to meet with them and "provide assurances that her disruptive behavior and threats to courthouse security will no long continue."

Judge Halverson declined comment to a reporter for the Las Vegas Review Journal. She spoke briefly with Channel 8 news. The television station provides a video of its interview. Channel 3 also provides a story on this matter.

The Review Journal article also discloses conflicts with Judge Halverson's former bailiff and former judicial executive assistant.

The story is the source of an unusual number of comments by RJ readers.
