Committees study indigent defense

There's a lot going on with indigent defense issues. The Nevada Supreme Court has formed a commission to examine indigent defense. It will be chaired by Justice Cherry and members include:

Washoe County Public Defender Jeremy Bosler
Clark County Special Public Defender David Schieck
Clark County Public Defender Phil Kohn
Washoe County Special Public Defender Jennifer Lunt
Assistant Federal Public Defender John Lambrose
8th Judicial District Court Administrator Chuck Short
2nd Judicial District Court Administrator Ron Longtin
Las Vegas Municipal Court Administrator James Carmany
Private practice attorney Robert Langford, . J
ustice Cherry states that a goal of his committee is to bring the Nevada system for indigent defense into compliance with the American Bar Association guidelines.

A committee of Clark County judges has also addressed this issue, but its recommendations were rejected by Las Vegas Justice Court JPs. The District Court judges will consider the committee's recommendations next Wednesday.

Liz Quillin, an Assistant County Manager, said her office will also be addressing the issue.
